What are Learning Powers?

Learning Powers are the skills that our children need to draw upon when learning in school.  Different tasks require different skills and so we have established a range of 'Super Powers' that children can use, either in isolation or combination, to work through a task and achieve!

Learning can be difficult, and indeed should be difficult, because if something is easy to do then we have to question whether or not it was worth doing in the first place.  It is when we are challenged that we learn best because we have to stop and think, we have to plan, we have to test, work together with others and persevere.  If something does not go to plan we need the resilience to not be defeated, to see set backs as additional challenges and to work through problems to the end.  This is when true understanding is acquired and makes exceptional learners that relish new challenges, engendering children who become tenacious and resourceful, imaginative and logical, self disciplined and self-aware, collaborative and inquisitive.

As a school, we initially decided which Learning Powers would best suit our learning environment.  Then each class took responsibility for a Learning Power and brought it to life by designing a superhero avatar and a backstory with examples of what the power looks like in reality.  So now it is time to meet our heroes...
